The first of many. This picture shows Agostino De Marco's house nearly complete. The roof, balustrading and external rendering are not yet finished. Also it appears that It is the first house in this part of the town.
Agostino De Marco's house was built in the early 1920's and remained in the family until the mid 1980's when it was sold to a relative.

The family were in England during WW2 and the house was occupied for a time by an Austrian-Jewish family who were later joined by an English couple, all hiding from the Germans. These events are described in Maria Corelli's book "In Love and War" which contains a photograph of the house.

When Picinisco was occupied by the Germans, the house was used as their headquarters. As they left, the house was stripped of everything of value including the extensive photographic record Agostino De Marco had made of pre-war Picinisco and it's people. The older photographs displayed on this site are a fragment of that collection.
