The piano was being taken from my great grandfather's house in the Casale to my grandfather's house in the Via San Martino. The Piano was manhandled along the rough limestone track by a large group of men in return for copious refreshments. The photo is also of interest as it shows two of the men wearing the traditional leggings and sandals described in the letter from D.H. Lawrence to Rosalind Baynes; written on 16 Dec. 1919.
